Dear reader,
Hello there - it’s been a few days. Things have been roaring forward in the mad rush of Eid and spring and surprise desert monsoons, and I’ve been surrendering to it as much as I can.
April has always been one of my favourite months of the year, but lately it’s also been a bit worrisome, with the last few weeks usually bringing in flashbacks of a health scare I’d had two years ago. Around this time of year, my words start to fail me a little - so I turn to reading for solace. Without further ado, here’s some links to check out:
YouTube’s resident librarian talks about booktok and taking back your agency with The Algorithm.
Why everyone’s a sellout now (this is a reference from my last set of links - specifically the piece on trust and the economy, just in case you checked it out already).
One of my favourite childhood authors is on Substack! Check out her work here.
Why is dystopian YA the most steadily popular thing ever? My friend Natalia breaks it down.
Goth Academia: Here’s an essay by Edgar Allen Poe on how he came to write one of my favourite spooky poems, The Raven.
Jamie Dimon’s annual letter to JPMorgan Chase shareholders takes on a whole range of topics: the world is finally overtly pointing out how intersectional things are, even if this is through a shiny corporate brochure-y lens.
I hope you are all keeping safe, well, and healthy.
Wish me luck,
Kaav.
